LEADERSHIP THAT LISTENS

For too long, decisions about Columbia County's future have been made behind closed doors—leaving residents to learn about major developments after the fact, not before. Our community deserves better than rubber-stamp meetings and last-minute surprises.

As the Chief Information Officer for Columbia County Schools for nearly two decades, I've managed budgets, infrastructure, and long-term planning for a district that's grown as fast as our county. Before that, I served as Chief Information Security Officer at Augusta University.

I understand how large organizations work—and how they fail when leadership stops listening. I'm also a 30-year Columbia County resident, Army veteran, and former Planning Commission member. I know this community because I've built my life here.

That's the leadership I'm bringing to the District 1 Commission seat:

  • Transparent Government – Open decision-making where residents have a real voice before deals are done, not after
  • Managed Growth – Development that protects our community's character, not just developers' bottom lines
  • Infrastructure That Works – Roads, utilities, and services that keep pace with growth instead of lagging behind

WHAT OUR NEIGHBORS ARE SAYING

I've known James for over twenty years. He's the kind of neighbor who shows up—not just when it's convenient, but when it matters.

Columbia County needs leaders who actually live here and understand what this community means to the people who built it.

John Robinson
Evans, Georgia
James and I served together, and I've watched him bring that same dedication to everything he does.

He's not interested in politics for the sake of politics—he wants to solve problems.

That's rare, and that's why he has my support.

Having worked with James on local planning issues, I've seen firsthand how seriously he takes public input.

He listens, he asks hard questions, and he doesn't just go along to get along.

That's the kind of leadership our county commission needs.

My Pledge To The First District

I will always listen to our neighbors, stand firm on our values, and always fight for what's right.
James Van Meter

TRANSPARENT GOVERNMENT

Too many decisions in Columbia County have been made behind closed doors. James will fight for open meetings, public input before deals are done, and a county commission that answers to residents—not special interests.

SMART GROWTH

Columbia County's growth should work for the people who live here. James will push for development that respects our community's character, requires real public input, and doesn't let developers set the agenda.

INFRASTRUCTURE THAT KEEPS UP

Our roads are the weakest link in a fast-growing county. James will demand that infrastructure—roads, utilities, and services—keeps pace with development instead of lagging years behind.

UTILITY COSTS

Six rate hikes in three years have squeezed families and seniors on fixed incomes. James will advocate for residents when major projects threaten to raise costs and ensure ratepayers aren't subsidizing industrial development.

ACCOUNTABLE LEADERSHIP

James has served Columbia County Schools for 19 years and sat on the Planning Commission. He knows how local government works—and how it fails when leaders stop listening. He'll bring executive experience and real accountability to the commission.

HONORING THOSE WHO SERVED

As an Army veteran with family buried at Arlington National Cemetery, James understands the sacrifices our service members and their families make. He'll always ensure Columbia County honors and supports those who served.
